Type Locality and Naming
Yan Cangbo et al (1956) described a group of strata above the “Dananao Schist” and named it as the “Bihou Bed”. The <Lithostratigraphy of Taiwan> (1996) renamed it as the Bihou Formation. The type locality is in the Bihou Village of the Yilan County, Taiwan.
Lithology and Thickness
Lower part is mostly phyllite interbedded by thin-bedded crystal limestone, with base conglomerate at the bottom, about 1500 m thick. Upper part is dominated by slate with sandstone and graval-bearing sandstone intercalations, about 1400 m in thickness.
Relationships and Distribution

The Bihou Formation is overlying unconformably on the Bilushan Fm.
Upper contact
The Bihou Formation has been overthrust by the older Jurassic-Cretaceous Dananao Gr. Reginally, the next older unit (mid-Cret) is the Yunlin Fm.
